With all of us getting more computer-reliant and using the Internet as a trusted source for information, I've had lots of folks ask me about cruising the job boards for opportunities and/or posting resumes to company websites or the big job board websites. As for company job boards, certainly they're a good resume tracking system and a way for companies to reach the "vast unwashed public" but not a way to insure any confidentiality in a search, or to be sure that the "right person" is seeing your resume.
While it's true that some of my clients require that I register all candidates I present through their on-line system (which I have no problem doing by the way), I also have the opportunity to contact the hiring manager or another key person in the hiring loop and "present" the candidate. This allows me to represent someone's full accomplishments and explain any background information that would be pertinent. After all, how many of us really want to be judged strictly by what's on a piece of paper?
Nothing replaces one-on-one personal communication between me and both the candidate and the hiring company. I could go on for hours about the perils of the big on-line job boards, but I'd rather just attach an article for you that appeared quite a while back but is still very relevant on this subject. I'd be happy to discuss this with you, or better yet, start a discussion going about this on my blog if you'd like. I'll post the article to my blog so that you can respond that way if you wish. As always, my goal is to give you the highest possible level of service in the staffing industry and I'm always open to your comments and suggestions.
