As the year winds down and we approach the holiday season, I am reminded of the Charles Dickens classic "A Tale of Two Cities" that opens with "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." Surely it was "the best of times" this year with crude and gas prices soaring to new record highs causing unprecedented hiring and some never-before-experienced demand for experienced professionals across our industry. However it was certainly also "the worst of times" considering the devastation wrought in the Gulf Coast by this year's hurricane season. Both highs and lows allowed us to "show our mettle" this year and hopefully we've all come through this with renewed excitement about what the coming year will bring. As many prepare to receive their hefty annual bonuses and head off for much-deserved vacation breaks, let us remember that "giving" this holiday season can be about so much more than traditional store-bought presents.
